Monday This N’ That

Posted in This N' That on October 22, 2007 by swizzmis

This morning I woke to the sound of a howling wind and something I haven’t felt in months, cool air. It seems that finally a decent cold front has come knocking on our doorstep and besides my sinus’s going crazy it feels great. A little bit of rain is hitting the roof as well. They said it’s only supposed to get up into the 60’s today so that means I get to wear a long sleeve shirt, something I haven’t done in a while either. Yesterday I got my hair cut and colored. I always feel more human after that. Today should be a relatively calm day at work compare to all the goings on last week and I have high hopes of getting some stuff accomplished before I head out for vacation. Yes I had to reschedule but that was no problem. Other than that it’s been an uneventful couples of days so not too much news to report.

The Graphic Novel

I was having a hard time coming up with what to blog about this morning. I really didn’t feel like talking about myself so I pursued the internet hoping to get ideas. I wasn’t on there very long before getting what I needed. I had come to Christine Feehan’s http://www.christinefeehan.com/ website. She’s a NYC Times bestselling author, best known for her paranormal Dark Series. There, on her homepage was this.

One of her books has been turned into a Graphic Novel! Let me tell you Graphic Novels are here to stay and are definitely encroaching on the traditional comic book market place. Marvel Comics move over. Magna has officially arrived. Magna is the Japanese word for Comic and in Japan is all the rage. Everyone reads Magna from kids to adults. And these comics have nothing to do with Spidey or Superman. No these are books with a begging’s, middles, and ends. Book stores today are well stocked with these and even on one of my TV shows one of the protagonist is a Graphic Novel artist. So what’s so appealing about a Graphic Novel? Well for one thing because it’s a picture book you can read one in about an hour or so. It’s quick entertainment that can be fit into a busy schedule. The pictures themselves are works of art. The anime characters are pretty cool looking. They’re relatively cheap costing about $10.00 a piece. And if you go to a half priced booked store they’re even cheaper. Does that say society is now so busy that we don’t have time to read novels? Probably not, but the Graphic Novel does have an edge over 300-400 pages of the written word by providing quick entertainment. So I think I may have to buy one of these and see what all the hub-bub is about. Stay tuned.

Wed Ho-Hums

Picture me yesterday; on the Titanic with my finger in the fatal hole, trying to stop the ship from sinking. Needless to say I did not get home from work in time to watch Dancing with the Stars, nor Biggest Loser. This morning I woke up with a sinus headache because it went from being cold to semi cool and humid over night. Unfortunately no writing has been accomplished since Sunday but I did manage to work a little on my synopsis. Oh well sometimes you just have to snap your fingers and say aw shucks. My BFF L got some bad news the other day. Her job is being outsourced so she will have to find a new one by the end of the year. Grrrr. I don’t like this time of year because it’s budget time and the company she works for was sold to a holdings company who just like to buy up things. They don’t care about employees. They’re just a few people trying to put more coins in their pockets who probably have more money than they know what to do with already. Sometimes Capitalism can really suck. But vacation is only two days away and at least I’ll have some peace and quiet (I hope) for the next five days. I wish I had a more positive blog but this week has been exceptionally challenging. But have no fear tomorrow is HHT and I have a real nice stud pic to post. LOL

Nonesense

I just had to post the following funny a friend sent to me. It just made me giggle and I couldn’t resist sharing. Other news; I accomplished quite a lot this weekend despite being kind of lazy. I vacuumed, cleaned up a lap top that someone is buying from me, took my CD’s and books to Half Price Books and got some cash for Pei Wei. I changed up my office a bit by moving some furniture around. Now my desk is angled in front of the two little windows I have, and the bookcase is just off to the side. It looks pretty nice if I do say so myself and now that I can look out and check up on the neighborhood, I feel more Feng Shui. I sent out 20 pages of my current WIP to my critique partners for review then enjoyed an intimate Saturday night with my DVR. A couple of episodes of Ghost Hunters, followed by some Most Haunted, yeah! Then it was on to Moonlight (drool, drool, that man is sexy and the show is getting much better) and my fave Blood Ties is back (more drooling, now I have to change the sheets) grin. After cancelling both dentist appointments, I got a card in the mail from them on Saturday and my dentist’s wife hand wrote a real nice note hoping I was doing okay and they were thinking about me. I was little distressed calling them on Thursday at the last minute to cancel and they could tell I was at my wits end. But it’s a new week and only four days of work are ahead. Then it’s off to the sunshine state where my butt will be on a floatie and I will be reading whatever romance book I chose. So in preparation for the blue haired state here’s the funny: Some “Senior” personal ads seen in Florida newspapers:
(Who says seniors don’t have a sense of humor?)

FOXY LADY:
Sexy, fashion-conscious blue-haired beauty,
80’s, slim, 5’4″ (used to be 5’6″),
searching for sharp-looking, sharp-dressing companion.
Matching white shoes and belt a plus.
LONG-TERM COMMITMENT:
Recent widow who has just buried fourth husband, and am looking
for someone to round out a six-unit plot.
Dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath not a problem.
SERENITY NOW:
I am into solitude, long walks, sunrises, the ocean, yoga and meditation.
If you are the silent type, let’s get together, take our hearing aids out
and enjoy quiet times.

WINNING SMILE:
Active grandmother with original teeth seeking a partner dedicated flossing
to share rare steaks, corn on the cob and caramel candy.

IN MINT CONDITION:
Male, 1932, high mileage, good condition, some hair, many new parts
including hip, knee, cornea, valves.
Isn’t in running condition, but walks well.

I Wonder

What is it with some book covers? Does this guy look like a dentist to you? I mean no disrespect to the artist and I feel sorry for this author, but I’m not sure I could get into a Fantasy dragon book where I would be picturing the alpha hero as a dentist. What is he going to do with the two dragons behind him, pull their teeth? Okay, strange I know but that’s all for today.

Can You Say Friday?

What a long week this was for me. I felt like I was living an episode of the twilight zone where time had stopped and just kept repeating itself. Yuck. I cancelled not one but two dentist appointments this week, the first one, then the rescheduled one. Oh well. It was more important for me to be at work. Speaking of which had some productive meetings which even though they gave me more work to do, should help out in the long run for my sanity. Since the nights are getting cooler I’m relishing in the fact that the AC isn’t on all the time and I can open the windows. I really don’t like to give the electric company more money than necessary and having the windows open airs out the house and takes the edge off of summer’s stuffiness. As you can see by my progress bar I did not make my goal and finish my manuscript as I had hoped by the end of September. This is an on going learning experience for me and it’s clear I’ll need to make some adjustments to find ways to juggle a job that pays but requires a lot of my time and a job that doesn’t pay, has no deadline, but I really want to do. I did realize during this process I’m a morning writer. I tried several times to write after getting home from work and it didn’t work out. Not to say that it can’t but I’ll need to train myself how to push through the pain to get some pages done at night. This weekend I’ll be writing and getting ready for my trip and in a few days on VC. Yeah!
