Ever Wonder…?

Posted in This N' That on June 30, 2008 by swizzmis

Right now I’m beyond feeling human-more a tortured soul. Every bone and muscle in my body is on strike. So I’m going to take it easy today. Not much to blog about so I’ll leave you with this thought for today. Why is it that in the movies they have characters who talk on cell phones, text with the speed of the gods, and can break into the most highly secured building to steal a treasure worth a kings ransom, but when it comes to a scene where the character is brushing their teeth they are doing so with a .99 cent toothbrush?

Not Sure I’m Alive

Oh my gosh. I can’t feel most of my body. Well I can feel it. It’s just that it hurts-even the eyelashes. I didn’t know eyelashes had nerve endings but apparently they do and they are screaming ‘what the hell did you do?’

I helped a friend clean her new house yesterday. The house is only three years old and was in good condition but previous occupants never cleaned. There were six of us in all over there , each of us took over a room. Mine was the living/dinning room. After five hours I managed to scrub the blinds, clean the windows, and do the baseboards. I think the dirt on the blinds was an inch thick and each louver had to be scrubbed and then rinsed. Let’s just say she had two really big windows in the living room. Everything and I mean everything had to be dusted, washed down and vacuumed. That was before we could shampoo the carpets and run the steamer over the of the parts of the floor that were lament. The bathrooms had to be disinfected and steamed too. I’ll tell you that Shark Steamer has paid off big time. Today we’re back at it again and doing the kitchen, den and laundry room. What amazes me is how in this day and age someone can move out of a house and not think to clean it for the next person. Have we turned into animals? It sure looks like some people live like ones. I’m not an obsessive about keeping house but I do like my space to be somewhat tidy. The most interesting part of the day was when we meet the neighbors. Right after the ‘hi, how are you’ they asked if previous occupants were all moved out. We said yes they were and they replied thank goodness. Not enough time to get the poop but that’s on today’s agenda. We’ll see if we can’t entice said neighbors with Crispy Creams to come over for a chat.

Saturday Ramblings

Posted in This N' That on June 28, 2008 by swizzmis

Boy this weekend is sure to be fun. A friend has just moved here and we’ll be working on her new house this weekend, cleaning it up after previous occupants left it in less than pristine condition. They’ll be six of us tackling the blinds, dusting, mopping, and vacuuming today. We should have it fixed up in no time. Afterwards it’s dinner at favorite Italian place. Of course that’s after cleaning up me. LOL

And yes I’m writing away this morning. I’m still stuck trying to put the plot together. But I‘ve found that in the past if I just keep writing ideas magically appear. It’s difficult creating a brand new world. You need to know a lot about it before you can even write and much if doesn’t make it into the story. In fact only a fraction does. But you need to have that background in your head to know why the characters are doing what they’re doing. Don’t know if that makes sense.  I’m please to say I have a handle on the villain who is going to be a piece of work. It’s the heroine that’s causing me fits. She’s being a bit shy and not telling me what she’s all about. I do know that she’s part Cuban which came out of nowhere and surprise the heck out of me.

Well back to writing. Happy Saturday.

Thursday Blahs

Not much to report. There was a freak rain storm that came out of nowhere last night around 8pm. I’ve never seen the wind blow in so many directions and when it hit it looked like a sand storm. But the wind was wildly blowing the rain in such a way that it was swirling.  In a half an hour we had 3 inches of water on the ground. Wow. And to think I was over at the neighbors house just minutes before. We were outside having Margaritas on the porch. Yesterday was just a funky day. I was tired for most of it but antsy too. I think it’s the heat and the junk floating in the air. It’s making everyone feel blah. But the rain cooled everything down and freshened things up a bit. J

Ok, first thing’s first. Plotted and brainstormed the story and I’m almost there. Morning, noon, night thinking about it.  I’m making progress. Things are finally coming together and I think the whole series will be pretty darn good. I’m excited.

Watched Wipeout and I survived a Japanese Game Show last night. Two thumbs up. During Wipeout I had to pause the TV and run to the bathroom I was laughing so hard and I Survived a Japanese Game Show is like Survivor on Crack. But I’m not blogging about those today.

I’m still plotting away. A few more scenes and I think I’ll have a nice little foundation to build on. I don’t know why I think I can just sit down and write something from scratch. It always starts that way then left brain wakes up from her nap and says, “What’s going on? You need some direction girl.”

And direction is what I’m plotting. Just the basic ideas for scenes-road markers if you will.

Over the weekend I cleaned house like a mad woman. I dusted and vacuumed every room. I even tackled the sunroom which I clean every couple of months. Sadly it doesn’t get used that much since I moved my writing space somewhere else. Even though I have a killer AC the sunroom it gets too much sun in the afternoon and writing becomes difficult. I also moved my space to a spare bedroom which doesn’t have so many windows to distract me. I was spending way too much time watching the bird feeders and the squirrel/bird interaction. Got a recipe for PF Chang food and tried that out.  Let’s just say it didn’t quite work out and I feasted on a jelly donut instead for dinner. Oh well live and learn. As you can probably tell I did the shopping for the week and now I have all this Chinese food crap taking up space in my cabinets. I had to buy lots of spices and sauces which will now just sit on the shelves. Grrrr.

The Clock Starts Ticking Now

Quick post this morning because it’s thundering and lightening and I should get off the computer quick. Sprinkler guy came out Tuesday and fixed all the sprinkler heads and pointed them the right way. The bug guy is coming out today. Held a great meeting at work yesterday and now I get a couple of easy days to sift threw the notes. It takes a lot of work putting this type of meeting together and I always feel like I can breathe again when it’s all over. I have anew writing goal, 1000 words a day for 90 days. Butt will be in chair each day until I reach each day’s total. So today and Friday I’m going to sketch a rough outline from beginning to end what’s going to happen. Unfortunately this will be on top of the 1000K goal. But once the outline is done (it doesn’t have to be neat and tidy, just some scene ideas to anchor the story along the way) I should be able to meet or perhaps exceed each days goal. Wish me luck. The clock starts ticking now.

The Uninvited

Hell itself has laid claim to Texas. Returning from a 6 month absence he’s banished the cooler north winds from Canada and invited his demon girlfriend, the southern wind from the gulf to sit beside him on his thrown. There is simply no relief for the plants and grasses that beg for water while bowing to his merciless habitation. The birds and squirrels make quick work of breakfast until he awakens, then scamper for the bushes to wait out the long hot day until dusk gives us only the illusion of relief. He reigns supreme to the serenade of the cicada and air conditioners while we humans stay inside our dwellings dreaming of the spring and fall praying our life support will last through the hellish months to come. Yes Hell has returned to the Lone Star State and he’s made it clear he’s staying for awhile.

Oh my goodness you don’t find this everyday

1780 British warship found in Lake Ontario

Intact 80-foot sloop is oldest ever found in the Great Lakes

Cool-uh?

Okay so that was mindless trivia but interesting trivia if I say so myself. You can read about the ship here.

I was super busy this weekend. I was on call for my job. I attended my writer’s group monthly meeting which I haven’t done in forever. It was good seeing people. Had dinner with friends Saturday night. Sunday I worked in the yard all morning-before it reached 100 degrees. I trimmed the bushes in the front yard which is a major production because they are so big and they had exceeded the height of my roof. I trimmed the honeysuckle vine that runs the length of my backyard fence, which is really my neighbor’s. They I trimmed the boxwood bushes in the backyard. I just have one other thing to do back there and that’s cut up a tree limb that my other neighbor decided to cut off my tree because it was hanging in his backyard. I have a saw for that but I was too tired and hot by the time I got done with everything else. Unfortunately I didn’t get as much writing done as I wanted but I did do some more plotting and figured out a few things. I expect to make great progress this week. Well that’s about it for today. I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend.
